Hudud: Husam’s quick U-turn ~ Ref Malaysiakini

My previous article entitled “PR: It’s complicated” is referred.

husamanwar2I watched how Husam pointed his finger while saying ‘Kita akan buat’, in replying Khairy’s challenge of implementing Hudud Law once PR control the fed gov. I was happy that PAS had a vice president that showed consistency and perseverance in championing Hudud, at least PAS still has some of it’s original identity intact.

Husam’s reply to Khairy’s challenge was quick, Lim Kit Siang was quicker when he posted an article to ‘warn’ Husam, while demanding Husam to clarify his statement. I don’t know by the word clarify he meant retract or what.

But wait.. not long after that fiery words with full of confidence mouthed by Husam, he produced another statement, as ‘ordered’ by LKS and son, and not by Pas President himself. And this time, every single words he said soothes LKS and DAP’s ears. One problem sorted for DAP, they don’t have to answer to their members who yearn for secular Malaysia. DAP is very lucky to have PAS as a political friend, “pandai jaga hati kawan, walaupun hati sendiri terluka”.

Husam in Malaysiakini

Khairy posted an article entitled “Transformasi politik Husam” – a cheeky title isn’t it? – to put a point in his unfinished war of words with Husam. I qoute here..

Dicabar kekanan, digertak kekiri.

Wallahualam.

Mohd Sayuti Omar (MSO), a veteran journalist criticized Husam’s political U-turn, without taking into consideration the implication of such action towards the credibility to the noble law. Needless to say, MSO is a big ‘fan’ of Husam, therefore he had chosen the best words to best describe his ‘happiness’ in related to Husam’s way of politics. The rest of the article can be assessed here.

Deemed as the next Kelantan MB, replacing Tuan Guru Nik Aziz, Husam must now clarify to all PAS members on his political U-turn, is it just to favor DAP or is it solely a slip of his tongue when he uttered the word “Kita akan buat”. My question to Husam is, “Buat apa?”, I imagine he replied in the same selamba tone when he perli Khairy, “Kita akan buat apa DAP suruh”. Point delivered.

  2. Saya puji Husam atas cadangan undang undang Hudud. Setidak-tidaknya dia berani cadang and berani “drop”.

  4. Husam didn’t retract a statement to please DAP or petty tribal chattering hordes who think spitting at DAP or the Chinee is an “Islamic victory. ” Yahoo! Husam’s first statement was an explanatory statement which was made in a special context. However, berUMNO, or bernama chose to twist it for sinister motives, not that PAS is not fearful of its stands and policies but the way Umno media chose to highlight the statement without looking at the context in which it was made speaks volume and it is stinking. PAS doesn’t need Husam or any other leader for that matter to retract a statement that’s related to its ideals. If you misundertood what Husam said or his subsequent explanation, then go to PAS’ website and see what PAS stands for and that will tell you what PAS stands for regardless of what a PAS leader may say along the way. PAS exsists for certain ideals and those ideals will be remain irrespective of leaders and times, but what we avoid is emotion, sheer stupidity and outright unimaginative policies that although may displease the tribal leaning elements (and of course Umno hordes) will otherwise result in bigger problems. It is really amazing that certain emotional tribalists who have no links whatsoever to PAS or its higher ideals ans who always feel “great” at tribal talk and violence oriented statements try to preach to us about DAP and other stuff. We don’t need certain advices neither do we take advices from certain ‘vanished’ people.

Husam’s subsequent statement was that although PAS insists on the implementation of Islamic laws (hudud), it needs “consultation” with fellow PR parties. I wonder which part of it ‘displeases’ you or which part of “consultation” you don’t understand! Of couse PAS needs to consult with others because it doesn’t have the necessary power to act alone neither does it have the numbers to carry its policies alone. Simple! Remember, Umno hordes backed off from Umno-PAS talks after Tuan Guru Datuk Nik Aziz, Husam’s mentor insisted on the Hudud, if Umno was honest about “demi untuk agama” nonsense meant for the brain damaged tribal hordes, it should have picked that “golden” opportunity and went ahead. Instead, the talks collapsed. I like that struggle! There is much more to do than to look for arguments, petty fights and losing focus and settling for petty ends that don’t help the ultimate goal.

  5. Ahmad,

I think DAP appreciated and very thankful of Husam latest statement, no doubt about that. Whether DAP is pleased or will only be pleased once they hear PAS drop their Negara Islam agenda, I dare not comment on that. Didn’t you read LGE statement, that DAP viewed Husam’s Hudud pledge will cause PR to lose not only 11% chinese votes in KT, but all over country? Isn’t that a threat, sort-of?

Chronologically, 1. Khairy challenged 2. Husam pledge Hudud Law 3. LKS stressed Hudud is not a PR policy, demanded clarification 3. LGE then issued another statement in support of his papa. 4. Husam re-furbish his statement.

Where is Hadi Awang, Anwar Ibrahim, Zul Kulim? Surprisingly, I heard that Kelantan UMNO will support hudud law if it’s tabled in Parliament. Are they part of the group of people you categorize as UMNO hordes?

U asked me which part of consultation I didn’t understand? My answer is, consultation is not a problem to me, the only thing that worries me is Malay political power in PR is being too apologetic, why must you turn to reverse gear when it comes to the plight of Muslim’s agenda, Malay agendas. There’s nothing wrong in voicing out our needs and wants. Why must tjey show that they MUST get LKS,LGE, DAP permission/approval first before they voice out Malay/Muslim agenda.

Btw, can you give a source on the statement ” UMNO backed off from UMNO-Pas talks….”

    thanks for dropping a comment

  6. What’s the wisdom of what you are saying? Are you saying fighting with DAP is what achieves victory or what? Sir, I don’t need to engage in flimsy shadow boxing here bcoz I don’t need to convince Umno people however little it is but tell me where Husam said PAS will not implement the Hudud? He said PAS will implement Hudud when it takes over the Govt. This caused displeasure as it was a monumental policy statement. And since Pas doesn’t have enough power to move alone, Husam explained what he said and Pas’s stand on this issue:

“However, PAS will continue with its struggle to implement Hudud law, which is God’s law, by explaining to all quarters, including the Pakatan Rakyat component parties, until they are ready to accept the law.” He talked about consultation and that’s all. Pas’ ideals are not changeable. However, it chooses the time to implement as it has to get the necessary power just like Prphet Muhammad (pbuh) implemented policies gradually and depending on his strength and power. Period! Concerning Umno, wasn’t Shabry Cheek who said when Tok Guru called for Hudud implementation: “Hudud wasn’t part of the dialogue?” What did Nazri say? Didn’t he say it was better to talk to PKR people than PAS because PKR people were former Umno people? The Umno media dropped the case only after that. If Umno is interested in “Islam” (huh), why doesn’t it support Pas now in implementing Hudud? Why not today? How comes Umno media is lambasting Pas if Pas is fighting for un-Islamic things? How comes Umno media is giving platform to MCA and MIC politicians to tun down Islamic rules? You call that what? Why do you need to talk about “kafir” DAP when your Umno is doing more nastier thing? You think PAS will buy the bunkum of Umno apologists and try to disassociate itself from DAP? That will only happen when Umno disappears from the scene. Make no mistake about it and anyway, we have more in common with DAP than we have with Umno.

I heard that Kelantan UMNO will support hudud law if it’s tabled in Parliament. Are they part of the group of oeople you categorize as UMNO hordes?”
Hehehe! This must be beyond salvation point. Umno Kelantan? By the way, Umno has only two MPs from Kelantan with PAS having 7 and PKR 3. And the two MPs, Minister Mustapa and Tengku Ku li don’t support Hudud, didn’t support Hudud and didn’t issue any statement on that matter. You are talking about the political ranting of loser Anuar Musa who defeated by the PKR candidate for his seat and now is jobless and this man rants and raves to remain in the limelight since Umno Kelantan that he has headed has been vanquished totally. This is the same man who has been against Hudud and Islamic laws in his violent fight against Pas. What are you telling me? Umno bankrolled media consultant Leslie Lau wrote about Anuar Musa’a petty political stunt and said:

“The Malaysian Insider understands the Kelantan state Umno leadership is planning to declare their support, which comes on the heels of Pas vice president Datuk Husam Musa’s admission on Saturday that his party would introduce hudud if it wins federal power. The support appears designed to place pressure on Pas.” Despite that, a statement wasn’t issued and all this is mere bravado talk. Anyway, both Najib and Khir Toyo dismissed any possibilities of Hudud laws being implemented and Najib said Pas used Islamic law for politics. If we do that, how comes he is not doing what’s good which is to implement them for God’s sake? Your fear who? If we fear DAP as you insinuate, what does Umno/Najib fear? Huh!

Sir, the Malay PR leadership doesn’t thrive on violent statement and Ahmad Ismail type parochial and medieval rhetoric meant to deceive the less informed or the emotional type Utusan Munafiq consuming hordes. DAP has an ideals just like PAS has and it states it is position. If Umno was interested in Islam or doesn’t fear anyone, what is preventing it from implementing Islam laws? Why do you need to wait for PAS since you have the power? God didn’t mandate PAS to implement Islamic laws alone, all Muslims are supposed to do so, so you are waiting for? fearing who? Sheesh!

  7. Dear Ruzaimi and readers,
This Hudud Issue has been attracting and sparkled our nation’s politics scenario. Prof Agus surely made huge impact with just a simple question.

Anyway, in regards with Hudud, as a Muslim, I support it wholeheartedly. I’ve made suggestion in Dato Ti’s blog http://tilianker.blogspot.com whereby I would like to see the implementation by PAS since PAS already controlled Kelantan for quite sometime now. Dato Ti even posted later article http://tilianker.blogspot.com/2008/12/i-support-implementation-of-hudud-laws.html

The Hudud and Qisas needs to be clarified crystal clear so that no misunderstanding on the hukum anymore. Action speaks louder than words shall do the work.

Whatever it is, although the “wacana” reproduced Hudud issue, I would say that this wacana is more like conventional war, both party shooting directly at each other. Some kills made, but some being killed too.
